Artist Statement A native Huntsvillian, Berry, the recipient of a four year Art Merit Scholarship, holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Studio Art with concentrations in sculpture and ceramics from the University of Mississippi. He specializes in hand built clay figures, free form platters, and large metal sculptures. His work has been exhibited at the Von Braun Center Visual Arts Achievement Program, where he was a two year Blue Ribbon Finalist, at the Tennessee Valley Art Center, and at the Mud Daubers Pottery Show in Oxford, Mississippi, among other venues. His senior thesis, a series of ceramic wall hangings of the Seven Deadly Sins, was the subject of a one man exhibition in the University of Mississippi’s Bryant Hall.
After spending four years in Birmingham
specializing in blacksmithing and stone and fountain restoration, in 2006
Berry returned to Huntsville and has completed courses in bronze sculpture
and iron work at UAH and Penland School of Crafts. Currently
he serves on the board of the Huntsville Art Krewe and has been a
featured artist at Panoply Arts Festival. He has taught courses in
ceramics in both wheel throwing and hand building, while also serving on
the board of the Tennessee Valley Ceramic Arts Guild. He has also been
project manager and part of the fountain installation team for Bridge
Street. |
